  4.         Currently <<UFONET>> has 3 echomail areas established. There
  5. is a Sysops echo, and two public UFO oriented echoes where the bulk
  6. of the discussion will take place. The reason for the inclusion of
  7. 2 UFO echoes should become self evident upon reading the respective
  8. descriptions which follow. It is hoped that people will make use of
  9. both areas, depending on the nature of the subject matter they wish
  10. to discuss. I hope that people will see the spirit behind why such
  11. a decision was made, and adhere to it as closely as possible.

  13.         Obviously, from time to time, it will be debatable as to which
  14. echo certain pieces of information, and strains of thought will best
  15. belong. As Moderator, I hope to be as relatively easy-going and as un-
  16. obtrusive as possible when acting in that capacity. From time to time
  17. it may be appropriate to shift debate to another echo, but for the
  18. most part I will leave this to the discretion of the users, and hope
  19. they adhere to the echomail policy in the spirit of good faith in which
  20. it was designed to be observed.

  24.  <<UFONET> User Sanctions:
  25.  ------------------------

  27.         <<UFONET>> places a high value on its role as a forum for the
  28. unincumbered, free flow of information relating to the subject of UFOs.
  29. As such, there will be no censorship of any kind, except for that which
  30. pertains to a User using profanity, or intentionally causing mischief or 
  31. any other outrageous activity which is in violation of the spirit of the
  32. "Code of Conduct". It is hoped that, in my capacity as Moderator, action
  33. will never have to be taken against a User. However, if it is brought to
  34. the <<UFONET>> Sysops attention that a violation has occured, it will be
  35. decided collectively by the <<UFONET>> Sysops as to whether it constitutes
  36. a breach or not of the "Code of Conduct", and appropriate action will then
  37. be taken, which is one of the following:
  38.  
  39.     o Action dismissed as not being a violation.
  40.     o If a violation, then User will get a 1st lightly worded warning.
  41.     o Upon a second violation, User will get a strongly worded warning.
  42.     o On a third violation, User will get a 30-day suspension of their
  43.       write priviledges. On any subsequent breach, the offending User
  44.       will no longer be permitted to access <<UFONET>>.

  48.  <<UFONET>> File Policies:
  49.  ------------------------

  51.         One of our greatest assets, is our huge file library, with
  52. well over 450 files on almost every aspect of study and research
  53. within "UFOlogy". We take great pride on the quality and diversity
  54. which is present within. Its our hope that you will make use of, and
  55. add to the quality and number of our existing file base.
  56.         Our files are obtained from a variety of sources. Most are
  57. composed by individuals such as yourself, and then uploaded to a BBS
  58. or on-line service. Some of our material is also excerpted from books
  59. and publications. Because of copyright sensitivity, it is suggested
  60. that where possible, accreditation should be given. As we are a non-
  61. profit, loosely based organization, by no means should individual files
  62. be reproduced and the contents therein sold for profit. Our goal is
  63. to disseminate as much of this information, as widely as possible, for
  64. people's private individual use only.
  65.         Regarding the 5-Star "rating" system used within the file library,
  66. it should be understood that this is a purely subjective, unofficial
  67. classification system used merely to point out "interesting" files. They are
  68. there for your benefit only, and do not represent a <<UFONET>> endorsement.

  72. Description of UFONET_A Echo:
  73.   ----------------------------
  74.  Beginning with the premise that the subject of UFOs is one laden
  75.  with both controversy and emotion to begin with, two public echo
  76.  areas have been instituted in order to accomodate the widest array
  77.  of both Users and information relating to the discussion of UFOs.
  78.  
  79.  UFONET_A Echo is intended to be a forum for discussion on those
  80.  elements of the UFO enigma to which there is more or less a
  81.  "concensus" upon within the UFOlogical community. Discussion
  82.  here will tend to be more conservative, and less speculative as
  83.  we examine those aspects of the UFO phenomenon which are for the
  84.  most part, accepted by most of the leading researchers within
  85.  the UFO community at large.
  86.  
  87.  Examples of discussion material, include UFO sighting and abduction
  88.  reports. Scientifically based theorizing on composition of UFO craft
  89.  and operating of propulsion systems, etc., generally referred to as
  90.  "nuts and bolts" discussion. Its hoped that "skeptic" and "believer"
  91.  and those inbetween, can co-exist peacefully within both UFONET echoes.
  92.  While some discussion material will inevitably overlap both echoes, it
  93.  is hoped that the spirit of this arrangement will be adhered to.

  96. Description of UFONET_B Echo:

  98.  Beginning with the premise that the subject of UFOs is one laden
  99.  with both controversy and emotion to begin with, two public echo
  100.  areas have been instituted in order to accomodate the widest array
  101.  of both Users and information relating to the discussion of UFOs.

  103.  UFONET_B Echo is intended to be a forum for discussion on the more
  104.  highly speculative and controversial aspects of some theories and
  105.  positions as held by certain UFO researchers and participants. This
  106.  however is not meant as a license to discuss fantasy or make-believe.
  107.  It is assumed that all participants in both echoes are here to discuss
  108.  issues which are meaningful to them, and which they hold in good faith.
  109.  The subject has enough controversy in it without having to resort to
  110.  fabrications. Appropriate for this echo is also highly speculative
  111.  discussion ranging from conspiracy/coverup theories, to that of the
  112.  implications of alien communications and interaction with humans. Its
  113.  hoped that "skeptic" and "believer", and those inbetween, can co-exist
  114.  peacefully within both UFONET echoes. While some discussion material
  115.  will inevitably overlap both echoes, it is hoped that the spirit of
  116.  this arrangement can be adhered to by all involved.
